About window cleaning in these suburbs

Glass is a big part of how homes here are built. Harbour-view walls of glass in Point Piper and Cremorne, beach houses in Manly and Newport with sliding doors on every level, frameless pool fences and balcony balustrades almost everywhere. Salt haze settles on seaward glass in a matter of days, sprinkler overspray leaves mineral spots, and bushland suburbs such as Wahroonga and St Ives add pollen and dust. Homeowners post regular cleans, one-off cleans before guests or a sale, cleans after a renovation to shift render splashes and paint spots, and hard-to-reach work on skylights, void windows and third-storey glass.

A proper window clean covers the glass, frames, sills and tracks, with screens removed and washed where they come out. Pure-water systems fed through poles clean exterior glass from the ground without detergent, dry spot-free and reach three or four storeys, which removes most of the ladder work. Beyond pole reach, the WHS Regulation 2017 requires fall protection such as harness anchors or a boom lift. Scrapers and abrasive pads have no place on tinted, coated or tempered glass. Washing a glass pool fence leaves its Swimming Pools Act 1992 compliance exactly as it was; a cracked panel or a tired latch is a repair job, not a cleaning one.

When you post, give us a window count or a rough glass area, how many storeys, whether you want inside as well as out, and anything unusual such as skylights, a glass roof or a balustrade over a drop. Vetted, independent window cleaners covering your part of Sydney receive it and get in touch with a direct quote, usually from your description and photos, sometimes after a quick look. If you live in an apartment, find out whether the exterior glass counts as common property; your strata manager can confirm who arranges and pays for it.

Frequently asked questions

No licence applies to window cleaning. Our checks for this trade focus on identity and ABN, public liability insurance, safe methods for height work, and evidence of recent local jobs with references. If a job also involves repairing frames or replacing glass, that is different work and may need a licensed tradie depending on its value.

Most are cleaned from the ground with purified water fed through a carbon fibre pole and brush, which reaches three or four storeys. Beyond that, or for internal voids and awkward roofs, the tradie uses ladders with stand-offs, harness points or a lift, since the WHS Regulation 2017 demands fall protection wherever someone could be hurt by a fall. Ask for the quote to state the method for your house.

Salt. Wind off the ocean and harbour carries a fine mist that dries on glass as a hazy film, worst on the exposed side of homes in Bondi, Dover Heights, Fairlight, Palm Beach and similar spots. Pure-water cleaning removes it without leaving residue. If salt has sat for a long time it can etch glass, which is why coastal homes tend to book more frequent cleans.

Yes. Frameless glass around pools and balconies attracts salt, sunscreen, body oils and hard water spots, and it is cleaned on both faces including the base channel or spigots. A clean leaves the barrier's compliance status unchanged, but a wobbly panel, a gap or a tired latch spotted along the way will be pointed out so you can have it repaired.

In many strata schemes the external face of windows is common property, so cleaning it is arranged by the owners corporation, often as part of a building-wide clean. Inside faces are yours. Check your by-laws or ask your strata manager before posting a job. Tradies in the network can quote the inside of your apartment, and the whole building if the strata committee asks.

For inside work, yes, or someone who can let the cleaner in and move anything fragile from sills. For outside-only cleans many homeowners simply leave side access open and a tap available. Agree it in writing with the tradie beforehand, along with where pets will be and whether any windows should be left alone.
