About water filtration in these suburbs
Sydney Water mains reach every suburb we cover, and that supply meets the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines in full. People still fit filters for good reasons: the taste and smell of chlorine, sediment after work on the mains, old galvanised or copper pipework inside Federation and interwar homes in Killara, Woollahra and Mosman, light scale on glass and kettles, and tank water on the semi-rural blocks of Terrey Hills and Duffys Forest. Jobs range from a small under-bench unit feeding its own tap in a Bondi apartment, to sediment and carbon filtration for a whole Pymble house, to annual cartridge changes on a system someone else installed.
In NSW, whatever touches the water supply counts as plumbing, and the Home Building Act 1989 licenses plumbing at any value. So a water filter is installed by a licensed plumber, full stop, whether it is a small under-bench unit or a whole-house system. Products need WaterMark certification; the install itself must comply with AS/NZS 3500 and with the Plumbing Code of Australia. Good installers size the system to the household, fit isolation valves and a bypass so cartridges can be changed without shutting off the house, and leave a written record of the filter type and change interval. They also say plainly when a filter will not solve the problem you have.
Tell us what you are trying to fix, such as taste, sediment or a tank supply, and whether the property is a house or an apartment, because whole-house systems in strata buildings usually need owners corporation approval and are often impractical. Only tradies holding a current NSW plumbing licence are matched to this work; we confirm the licence on the public register alongside ABN, insurance and recent local installs. They quote you directly in writing, listing the equipment, where it will go and how often cartridges need changing. You decide who to use. We never suggest Sydney tap water is unsafe; filtration here is about preference and particular situations.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. Sydney Water supplies treated mains water to all of these suburbs and that supply meets the national drinking water guidelines. A filter is a preference, not a necessity. People choose one because of taste, a chlorine smell, grit from old pipes or mains work, or because their property is on a tank. A good tradie will say so and help you pick the right size of system for the problem you actually have.
A licensed plumber. Hooking anything up to the supply is plumbing, and plumbing needs a licence holder no matter how small the job. We confirm each installer's licence class and expiry on the NSW register. The products also need WaterMark certification to be legally installed.
Under-sink units treat drinking and cooking water at one tap and suit apartments, rentals and anyone mainly worried about taste. Whole-house systems treat everything entering the home, which helps with sediment, chlorine in showers and protecting appliances, but need space near the meter, a sensible flow rate and access for cartridge changes. Houses on large blocks in St Ives or Wahroonga often have the room; a Neutral Bay apartment usually does not.
It depends on the filter type, water use and sediment load. Manufacturers give an interval or a litre figure, and a pressure drop at the tap is the usual sign a cartridge is clogging. The installer should write the change interval on the unit and in your quote. Filter replacement and servicing is one of the jobs you can post on its own.
An under-sink filter inside your lot is normally fine, though some schemes ask that a licensed plumber does the work and that you tell the strata manager. Anything on common property pipework, including a whole-floor or whole-building system, needs owners corporation approval. Have a word with your strata manager before you post.
Tank water is untreated, so the system usually combines sediment filtration with UV disinfection, and the tank, gutters and first-flush diverter need to be in good order too. A licensed plumber who has installed tank systems locally will size the UV unit to your flow and explain the lamp and pre-filter maintenance. Mention the tank when you post so the match reflects it.
