The jobs
Water filtration requests are smaller and steadier than the big cleaning categories, and they are plumber-only. Owners of apartments in Bondi, Manly and Neutral Bay post under-sink systems with a dedicated tap. Owners of larger homes in Pymble, St Ives, Bellevue Hill and Mosman post whole-house sediment and carbon systems at the meter, often in houses with old galvanised or copper pipework. Semi-rural blocks in Terrey Hills and Duffys Forest post tank water systems with UV. Cartridge and membrane changes on systems someone else installed come through all year, and so do leaks and flow problems on older units.
Connecting anything to the water supply is plumbing work and licensed at any value in NSW, so we only match this category to tradies with a current NSW plumbing licence; we look it up on the public register, classes and expiry included. We also match photo ID to your ABN, take your public liability certificate of currency and look at recent filtration installs with references. Every product you fit should carry WaterMark certification, and the work has to meet AS/NZS 3500 as applied through the Plumbing Code of Australia. We never tell homeowners that Sydney tap water is unsafe, and we expect the same from you.
Homeowners here are well informed and often undecided between an under-sink unit and a whole-house system. They expect a plumber who asks what problem they are trying to solve, sizes the system honestly, fits isolation valves and a bypass, writes the cartridge interval on the unit and in the quote, and explains ongoing servicing clearly. They expect a clean install with no mess under the sink or at the meter, and a quote that lists equipment by model. Strata owners expect you to know when owners corporation approval is needed. Plumbers who talk people out of systems they do not need earn the repeat work.
What we check for this trade
Frequently asked questions
No. Installing, moving or connecting a water filter is plumbing work under the Home Building Act 1989, and only a licence holder may do it, whatever it is worth. The licence is verified on the NSW register before any match goes out. Cartridge changes on existing systems are also matched within this plumber-only category.
Any filtration product that carries WaterMark certification where it is required and suits the application. We do not push brands. We do ask that you can supply manufacturer data on flow, capacity and cartridge intervals, and that you leave the homeowner with that information in writing.
Yes, from the semi-rural parts of Terrey Hills and Duffys Forest and the odd property elsewhere with a rainwater tank plumbed to the house. Those jobs usually need sediment filtration with UV disinfection and a conversation about the tank, gutters and first-flush device. Say whether you take tank work when you apply.
Equipment listed by make and model, where it will be installed, isolation and bypass valves, the cartridge change interval, what is excluded, and a plain statement that Sydney mains water already meets the drinking water guidelines so the system is about taste, sediment or a specific concern. Quotes written that way win.
